Project template for BIM-based platform design successfully implemented

Munich, 27 July, 2020 – DB Station & Service AG, the operator of transport stations on the DB Netz AG route network, has developed a comprehensive project template together with ALLPLAN which is now available to all Allplan users as a free download. The template for applying the BIM methodology for DB Station&Service AG projects contains all components and equipment in the form of intelligent objects. Allplan users are therefore able to carry out their planning projects for Deutsche Bahn in accordance with the Group's BIM specifications, thereby ensuring high data quality.

DB Station & Service AG, a subsidiary of Deutsche Bahn, is one of the largest operators of transport real estate in Europe with 5,400 stations and 800 station buildings. Alltogether, it looks after around 3,300 tenants in a total of 700 station buildings, covering an area of 1 million m², which are visited by 20 million passengers a day. It has been using the BIM methodology for the design and implementation of infrastructure measures since 2017, making it a pioneer in the industry.

"The BIM methodology has become indispensable in the design, construction and operation of the structures of Deutsche Bahn. It provides cost certainty before tenders for construction work are made, increases the quality of planning and, last but not least, enables the digital transfer of data for operation and maintenance," says Dr. Katja Maaser, Head of Standardization and Digitization at DB Station & Service AG. In this context, BIM content is an important component in ensuring the qualitative application of the BIM methodology. "We are therefore pleased that all components created by ALLPLAN meet the requirements of the DB BIM specifications in version 2.4 and the standards laid down by DB Station & Service AG," continues Dr. Katja Maaser.

Rail platform design with Allplan

"Construction projects for major clients such as Deutsche Bahn require the commissioned designers to strictly adhere to specifications. With digital project templates it is possible to meet these specifications and gain more time for the actual task of design", explains Robert Bäck, Head of Consulting at ALLPLAN. "Thanks to the new project template, our customers are now able to improve their design quality and meet the specifications of Deutsche Bahn in the best possible way", continues Robert Bäck.

The project template for rail platform design contains numerous features and templates that support the entire workflow of design, model creation, evaluation, documentation and data transfer. These include, among others:

  • Catalogue of components in the form of assistants and library objects
  • Attribute favorites for the individual objects and installation types
  • Evaluation with customized lists, reports and labeling images
  • Compilation and derivation of planning documents
  • IFC exchange profile for correct attribute assignment and transfer during export

The content is continuously expanded and updated as required. A guide explains how to work with the template as well as parameters and properties of the individual objects. An introductory webinar provides users with a complete overview of how to work with the project template.
