Football icon Santiago Bernabéu faces complete revamp
The stadium, inaugurated in 1947 and named in honor of Spanish soccer star Santiago Bernabéu, has been renovated and extended several times since. Now it is about time for a complete overhaul. The stadium, home to Real Madrid CF, will be fitted with an entirely new façade, which, just like Munich’s Allianz Arena, will be illuminable and also features a complete roofing of the stands. The remodeling also involves extended stand capacities from 81.044 to 90.000 seats with free view to a 360° panoramic screen circumscribing the stadium’s new roof, as well as the addition of a hotel and a shopping center integrated into the stadium complex.
The construction time is estimated to a max. of 4 years, with a construction volume of approx. 400 million Euros.
At present, there is just one last hurdle to overcome: the public spaces envisaged as ecological compensatory measures are not located within the same Madrilenean urban district, which actually contradicts local construction law.
