The Company's Founder - Prof. Georg Nemetschek

Prof. Georg Nemetschek

Professor Georg Nemetschek, born 1934, is the founder of Nemetschek AG and has played a crucial role in shaping the company. He created the conditions that are still decisive for the success of the Nemetschek Group today. In recognition of his unique life's work, he was awarded the Order of Merit of the Federal Republic of Germany in 2001.

Early Fascination

When studying civil engineering at Munich Technical University, Georg Nemetschek was already fascinated by PERM, a thermionic computer constructed there by professors Piloty and Sauer, which, along with Konrad Zuse’s Z1, represented a  milestone in computer technology.

Software Vision

Georg Nemetschek took a risk on his passion for computers and software by investing a great deal in software development in the sixties - a period before the invention of the PC. The success proved him right: In 1963, the newly founded "Engineering office for the construction industry" was one of the first to use programs for the calculation of finite elements for plates subject to high load and with irregular support.

Training the Next Generation

In 1971, Georg Nemetschek was appointed as a professor at Munich Technical University. He served for many years as the dean of the special faculty for civil engineering/steel construction until 1996. He paid special attention to providing the students with practical training. By providing donations, he ensured that students always had access to the latest software and hardware.

Going Public

In 1997, Professor Georg Nemetschek transformed Nemetschek Programmsysteme GmbH into a stock corporation. In March 1999, the company went public.
