Energy Requirement Analysis for the Early Design

Architects make 80 percent of all decisions relating to a building's energy requirements in early on in the design phase. With the EcoDesigner, the new application in ArchiCAD12 and 13, they are able to determine the likely energy requirements of their buildings in the design phase and compare different designs with each other. The analysis of the building model is carried out automatically and the results are displayed in the architect’s familiar working environment.
The EcoDesigner does not generate an official energy analysis such as needed for the energy performance certificate connected with federal state standards, for example. However, it does determine guideline values quickly and straightforwardly, and these can be used as the basis for important planning decisions - anywhere in the world. For this, meteorological data for each location is taken from an internet-based weather database in order to determine the temperature profile and the heat gain. The "U-value calculator" then defines the heat transfer coefficients of the multilayer components, with users able to access an integrated building materials catalog or to enter their own thermal insulation material key figures. Finally, the EcoDesigner calculates the building's energy balance and provides an energy report with information on the structural behavior of the project, the annual energy consumption, CO2 emission and monthly energy balance.
